The State Budget will invest $1.1 million dollars in improvements to Springbank Road – a key arterial road in Adelaide’s inner south.
The Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan said locals had emphasised the need for the upgrade when he attended a public meeting hosted by community members concerned with traffic management in the area.
“Panorama residents complained of the difficulties they have with access out of local streets on to Springbank Road,” Mr Mullighan said.
“More than 20,000 vehicles use this road each day but it can be difficult to negotiate because there are no clear lane markings for cars and there are no refuges for pedestrians.
“This funding will allow for a median island and pedestrian refuges to be installed, which the community has identified as key priorities.
“The State Government will partner with the Mitcham Council to bring this project to fruition.”
The Member for Waite Martin Hamilton-Smith welcomed the funding commitment, which will also allow for minor junction upgrades, indented parking and bus stops, and landscaping.
“This is an significant investment in an important part of the road network in the electorate of Waite,” Mr Hamilton-Smith said.
“In my time as the local member the issue of Springbank Road has often been raised with me by constituents so it’s very pleasing to see funding allocated to making this road safer and easier to navigate.”
The Springbank Road project is part of a $170 million investment over the next four years in road infrastructure.
The road infrastructure stimulus package will boost productivity, improve safety on both suburban and regional roads, while also supporting more than 400 construction industry jobs.
Over the next four years the State Government will spend $1.5 billion dollars on road projects including $700 million dollars on the North South Corridor.
