Reforms to the State Government’s international support program announced in February have opened up new opportunities for South Australian exporters.
The new Export Partnership Program provides 50:50 funding to eligible South Australian companies to pursue international market development opportunities.
Minister for Investment and Trade Martin Hamilton-Smith said that the first round of the new program has closed, with a resounding response from South Australian exporters.
“There have been more than 60 enquiries received and 45 applications lodged. This indicates a healthy appetite from South Australian businesses to explore global markets,” Mr Hamilton-Smith said.
“The good news is that companies that missed the deadline may apply for the next round ending on 10 July 2015.
“Under the Export Partnership Program, current and aspiring exporters can apply for funding of up to $50,000 for eligible export projects and activities. Companies can apply multiple times until they reach the full $50,000 allocation, and based on the recent response it will be a very competitive process.
“Grants may be used to support coaching, training, market intelligence and mentoring in order to plan for international opportunities and build their export capability.
“This is about helping companies gain access to the right tools and support to grow and build international networks that can often be financially challenging to access.
“Our TradeStart Advisers have been working closely with companies to build their business case for export markets. I strongly encourage Small to Medium Enterprises to get in contact with their local TradeStart official through the Department of State Development to begin their path into international economies.
“A number of sectors stand to benefit from the new grant including aerospace, creative industries, food and wine and services.
“The scale of the response demonstrates a growing appetite in the Small to Medium Enterprises sector to grasp the opportunities made available to companies through our Engagement Strategies for China, India and South East Asia.
