A South Australian food and wine showcase will be the highlight of a trade delegation visiting
Taiwan today, as part of a wider North Asia trade mission including Japan and the Republic of
Korea.
Delegates will attend a number of meetings and functions in the city of Taipei, covering key
areas of trade opportunities in premium wine, agribusiness, health, aviation and aerospace,
investment, and advanced manufacturing and technology.
Background
Taiwan is a vibrant, developed and significant economy within the Asia region, with strengths
in ICT and manufacturing.
With a population of more than 23 million and relatively high incomes, Taiwan presents
opportunities for South Australian exporters in several areas.
Key South Australian exports to Taiwan include iron and base metals, fresh meat, beverages,
oil seeds, petrochemical products, lead and copper.
A South Australia – North Asia Engagement Strategy and action plan is currently being
developed to establish a framework for forging closer relations with Japan, the Republic of
Korea and Taiwan.
Implementation of the action plan will encourage greater support for South Australian
businesses to enter the North Asia export market.
